Once it stopped raining it was a beautiful summer and fall. Some nice fish were caught, fun times had and friends made. Thanks to all who make it possible every year. I'll get some pics up as soon as I get some free time . Start counting the days till the next camp fire

It finally stopped raining and got nice. The high water and extra feed made the Walleye fishing difficult and the catch was less than a normal spring. The last week has been the best Walleye fishing thus far and are being caught on red/white and green spinners at about 1 mph. Plugs were producing last weekend at 1.6 mph and the perch color with a rattle did best. Pike and bass have been about an average catch but no monsters yet. The best catch of the year comes from our friend Bob ( Rain Man) who managed to get a treble hook in his foot. He then proceeded to try and pull it out with 6 lb fishing line tied to the hook while in his boat. the line snapped and the screaming that followed scared off some innocent paddlers near by. He then came to shore and after refusing an embarrassing trip to the ER he convinced his daughter and a neighbor to pull it out. I only wish I had video . As soon as picks come in I'll get them posted. Congratulations to Brian who Just got married. Enjoy the weather while we have it !
My friend (Rain Man) recently pointed out that I needed to update the blog, so here goes. It was a late spring in Union Falls. The ice did not go out till April 21 and the fishing thus far has been slow. The walleye are starting to bite and I should see a decent catch this weekend. Long time customers Skip and Fred did well with the pike in early may and I'll post some pics as soon as they send them. We only went ice fishing once and caught only two fish all day but no one in attendance seemed to mind. Looking forward to a nice season and hope to see everyone this year.
Randall ![]() Well I failed miserably at posting monthly this year. Sorry but there is only one of me and much to do. As always I will strive to do better. The weather could not have been more perfect and the fishing proved to be good as well. With very little rain and warm temps, it will be no doubt be a summer to remember in Union Falls. The largest walleye was 7 pounds 7 ounces, but I also saw several in the five pound class. No monster pike landed this year, but as always, I see many in the 3 foot range. Bass fishing was good but I failed to see any fish in the 5 to 6 pound class. The kids had fun with the perch and sun fish that are always in ample supply. We saw good fishing from May till about mid June. August is always slow fishing due to water temp but the nicest time of the year to be on the water. The friendly ducks and loons that kept near by all season were enjoyed by all that spent time with us this year. I think most would agree it was a near perfect season that leaves all longing for the next. Thanks to everyone that comes and allows us to keep doing what we do. Hope to see you all next year p.s - send pics and I will post them. Thanks to the Chura crew and alex for the pics. Alex took this pic from the top of Catamount looking down at our end of Union Fall. It was a pleasure Alex, hope to see you next year. Randall The 2012 season is in full swing. Sorry for the lack of posting but I had some technical difficulty with my web service. The walleye fishing has been fantastic this year and I not only have seen good numbers caught but several in the five pound class as well. With the walleye fishing this good, not many are fishing for pike or bass but have seen 36 inch pike and some nice small mouth. The weather has been outstanding and has the water temp up to 72 degrees. Black flies have been much less than years past but are still around. here are some recent pics and hopefully I'll be posting more frequently now. Its time to go fishing. Nice fish Brian thanks for the pic. More pics on the picture page.
I apologize for the lack of blogs Last year and will try to keep current in 2012. 2011 was a good year for fishing at Union Falls and I saw many very nice fish. I saw walleyes in the 4 pound range and pike in the 8 to 10 pound range. I did hear of a 20 pound + pike caught but did not see it. We usually see at least one that big a year. I hope the kids had fun and the adults found some time to just enjoy the view. We appreciate everyone who spent time with us last year and hope to see you all in 2012. As for 2012 Bay and I went ice fishing last weekend and on Friday afternoon, he caught an 18" pike. On Saturday some friends came out fishing with us and they caught 2 perch. They were nothing to brag about. The Blake boys were also fishing and had a few flags but like all true ice fisherman they know the fun of ice fishing isn't in catching the fish. A fun time was still had by all. On Sunday we had a few minnows left so we put out 5 tip ups and hoped for the best. After a couple hours we had a flag and bay ran over to check it out. It was just a false alarm. we reset the tip up and started to walk away when another went up and this time we had a fish. After the fish ran three times and some screaming over line tangled around his little finger, Bay pulled out a 38" 16 pound pike! We took some pics weighed him and put it back in the hole to catch another day. That's the second big pike Bailey has caught, the first was 14 pounds. Nice fish, but it was more fun watching him catch it than if I caught it my self. If we go again we will let you know how we make out. Here's a couple pics of his pike along with my favorite pic from last summer. There's no fish in it, but something about it just seems peaceful. Hope to see everyone soon. Don't be shy leave a comment or two.
The walleyes have been hot and most people are catching big numbers. Pike have been aggressive as well. Bass opened last week but no one was bass fishing due to the ecceptional walleye fishing. Water temp is around 62 degrees and water level is finally normal. There catching the walleyes on plugs, crawler harnesses and jigs. Its a good time to go fishing.
The 2011 season is here and between the rain drops they are doing a little fishing. Some kids caught a 36" pike off the lawn last week. Some semi serious pike fisherman did pretty well also last week. I saw some nice pics of a few 18" small mouth and they also caught a large mouth or two and over a dozen pike. Bass are pre-season and all were let go. I will post the pics as soon as they send them to me. The water temp is still in the 40 s and current lake level is over a foot higher than normal summer levels. Ice fishing was pretty much a bust or I would have been happy to post something. Baily caught one nice perch in four trips. Every body think sun and I hope to see you soon.
Its October 15 and the official end of our season. As with every season I'm glad to see an end to the endless hours but sorry to see many patrons whom have become good friends leave. All good things must come to an end and so we will just have to look forward to next season. Fishing continued to be good in 2010 and I saw many nice fish and happy fisherman. Though if you have spent time here you know its more about the friendships made, peace full days and amazing views than any fish. A bad day fishing on Union Falls beats most days any where. When the snow is piled deep and winter seems never ending, think back to a lazy day on the lake and know you will be here soon.
PS- Than,s to every one who gives there time and energy to help out, with out you it wouldn't be possible or enjoyable. I posted new pics, check them out. If you have a favorite send it to me and I'll post it. Don't be shy if you have a suggestion for next year, or would like to share an experience please post a comment. Thank,s again, Randall. |
